Laminectomy

  • Aform of spinal surgery otherwise known as ‘microdecompression’ performed for patients with spinal stenosis (narrowing of the passage for spinal cord), commonly affecting Lumbar spine (lower back).
  • Lamina is the roof of the vertebral body enclosing the neural structures and ‘Laminectomy’ is basically ‘removal of this roof’ to widen the passage for the nerves.
